Hudson Land Development Company

master plan | east montgomery, alabama

Andropogon worked with the Hudson family to transform 2,100 acres of land in East Montgomery Alabama into a development that preserves the natural and cultural landscape of the Black Land Prairie. The proposed community establishes a new model of development that merges ecological design with the principles of new urbanist town planning. By locating the town on high ground and within the existing “landscape rooms” of the old farm fields, the development allows for the restoration of the natural drainage system, local stormwater management, and soil reclamation. Andropogon’s respectful integration of town and landscape creates opportunities for open space amenities like wetlands and neighborhood based agriculture that return natural and human communities to health and vitality.
