master plan & site design | pennsylvania

In response to a leading pharmaceutical firm’s plans to expand and redesign its 275-acre campus in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, the master plan created a cohesion the campus had previously lacked and developed sustainable guidelines for landscape management, maintenance, and subsequent development. Challenged by environmental constraints including mature, declining forests, and the importance of protecting a Class A trout stream running through the property, the plan proposed a landscape management philosophy of “ordered ecology,” where environmental stewardship is in step with a neat and organized landscape aesthetic. Improving and clearly defining pedestrian and vehicular circulation addressed concerns of pedestrian safety and way finding. Using consistent building materials that also defined the property’s boundaries established a solid corporate identity and strengthened campus security.
