how can we celebrate the ecological heritage of a dynamic, tidal landscape?

SHORE FARM AT AVALON NATURE PRESERVE

WE HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH FROM THIS PLACE AND THE PEOPLE THAT WANT TO PROTECT IT.

Shore Farm will soon be an extension of the much-loved Avalon Park and Preserve, linking the existing memorial garden and native woodlands to the water’s edge at Stony Brook Harbor. We have been working with the amazing people at the Paul Simons Foundation to expand their mission to protect not only the unique natural habitat of Long Island but to restore and maintain its ecological heritage while helping to tell its story to the public. Shore Farm will invite visitors to explore a dynamic, tidal landscape through a mix of permanent and ephemeral features that enhance habitat and restore ecological systems. We hope the new park will highlight the beauty of an adaptable, healthy, and therefore resilient, coastal landscape, and our ability to live in harmony with it.
