colin franklin, PLA, RA, RIBA, AIA, ASLA
A founding principal of Andropogon Associates, Colin has worked both nationally and internationally for more than four decades creating sustainable and beloved places. From new communities to educational institutions, his designs grow from his ability to integrate the broad ecological context with site-specific solutions that are both practical and farsighted. Trained as both an architect and landscape architect, Colin has a strong understanding of engineering concepts. His ability to unite interdisciplinary team members around a larger ecological framework is complimented by his talent of fulfilling bold ideas.
From the beginning of his career, Colin has been involved in many large-scale planning projects. In doing so he has developed a special expertise in addressing long-term sustainability for projects in very different bio-regions—from hot, arid climates to cold, damp environments. As an architect and planner, he was part of a team designing the new capital of West Pakistan, in Islamabad, which included the planning and design of low-cost housing prototypes, schools, and community centers as well as the landscape plan for the entire city. It was during these early projects that he developed a lifelong interest in preserving and revitalizing the unique natural resources of each place; reinforcing the elements of each specific culture in the patterns of new development.
