Yale University, New Sculpture Building and Parking Garage
new haven, connecticut
Originally planned as an addition to an existing building, the project was sited separately to help connect the campus to the surrounding community. The former brownfield site, previously a dilapidated parking lot, was transformed into a park- like setting using native and terrace plantings. The project scope included sustainable landscape strategies such as benches crafted from reclaimed wood originating from a removed tree on- site and a green roof with native plantings. The site design also reduces stormwater runoff f by including pervious asphalt paving, a rain garden system with native wet /dry meadow plantings and a rainwater harvesting system that collects rainwater from the roof and water from the site for reuse within the building.
