Sited on an environmentally sensitive escarpment, the master plan for the new Center for Mountain Health Services integrates residential mental healthcare and diagnostic community healthcare on to a 56-acre facility that recognizes the natural and cultural heritage of its historic site. The project’s scope of work included the creation of a network of nature trails, recreation facilities and open spaces that provide sweeping panoramic views of Burlington Bay and Lake Ontario while connecting the facility to nearby neighborhoods and Mohawk College. Therapeutic landscapes that include courtyards, healing gardens, an amphitheater and labyrinth each integrated within a larger system of sustainable water management, food production and green roofs were also developed.
