Princeton Theological Seminary
site design | princeton, new jersey
Situated on 5 1/2 acres in the heart of historic Princeton, New Jersey, the Princeton Theological Seminary library is the largest theological library in the United States. To accommodate its growing collection and improve its functionality, the Seminary determined that the existing library complex would need to undergo a substantial renovation. Throughout the design process the project team collaborated closely to develop a concept which fulfilled the project requirements while acknowledging the subtle features of the project site, campus and surrounding community. Andropogon’s design approach focused on enhancing spatial linkages from the site to other facilities within the campus fabric, maintaining the historical aesthetic, and protecting the existing tree canopy which gave the site its unique character. A planting design of vegetated rain gardens helped to strengthen sense of place and build healthy habitat.
