Grey Towers National Historic Landmark

master plan & site design | milford, pa

The plan and restoration for the 1,500-acre estate and former home of Gifford Pinchot, founder of the US Forest Service and governor of Pennsylvania, presents strategies for the adaptive reuse and preservation of the historic landscape while developing the estate as a tourist destination and a center for forest ecosystem management. The plan strategically divided the site into three zones, mansion and gardens, estate landscape, and surrounding forest. New amenities including visitor pavilion, parking and an entry road were designed to enhance the visitor experience while preserving the original character of the estate.
